This small city has been attracting new settlers for years. Burlington’s rich history began around the 1870’s as early settlers moved to the area to work in the lumber trade and blaze the western section of the Transcontinental Railroad. In the 1880’s, a logging camp was established to supply lumber for the Tacoma Mill Shingle Company. Waterfront towns began to grow and more settlers arrived in Burlington. From the 1890’s to the 1900’s, the town continued to take shape as the lumber was used to build a saloon, church, bank, post office, hotels, schoolhouse and a train depot. Today, those that choose to live in Burlington consist of former urban dwellers, local organic agriculturalists and those looking for a more peaceful lifestyle in the countryside.
