Burlington is located between the Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountain range, near the center of the Skagit Valley and is a gateway to the San Juan islands. This small city has been attracting new settlers for years. Burlington’s rich history began around the 1870’s as early settlers moved to the area to work in the lumber trade and blaze the western section of the Transcontinental Railroad. In the 1880’s, a logging camp was established to supply lumber for the Tacoma Mill Shingle Company. Waterfront towns began to grow and more settlers arrived in Burlington. From the 1890’s to the 1900’s, the town continued to take shape as the lumber was used to build a saloon, church, bank, post office, hotels, schoolhouse and a train depot. Today, those that choose to live in Burlington consist of former urban dwellers, local organic agriculturalists and those looking for a more peaceful lifestyle in the countryside.

Also, you can head to the western part of the county, where you can take an awe-inspiring scenic route up WA State Route 11 or Chuckanut Drive. You can go to the eastern edge of the county along a spectacular stretch of highway where the North Cascade Mountains are and view our Nation’s own bald eagles on the Skagit River or take a hike on the selection of 50 miles of trails.
When you plan your visit to Burlington, there are several fun events that occur including Berry Dairy Days, which is one of the oldest festivals in Skagit County and celebrates Burlington’s history of agricultural and farming communities. This festival is held in mid-June and it is an event that is sure to delight visitors of all ages. Festivities are plentiful and include delicious strawberry shortcake, craft vendors, the spectacular city of Burlington fireworks show, a Grand parade, Kiwanis barbecue, live music, Big Rigs and more. Another event that is sure to spark interest for the music lovers is the Burlington Summer Nights Concerts beginning mid-July and runs through mid-August and features local musicians throughout Washington state. Start off your weekend with good music as well as grab and go snacks from their concession tent with your friends and family.
